“Just pick one”
That’s what I was told when I first started my online business – pick one niche and stick with it. That worked for me for a long time, but now that I’m established, with over a decade of online business experience, 10,000+ hours under my belt and millions of words written, I no longer put myself in a box (or a corner, Baby).
I’m a copywriter, a website designer, a funnel builder, an email strategist and all the things in between.
Why you need a unicorn…
Here's what usually happens when you hire multiple freelancers: the web designer doesn't talk to the copywriter, the copywriter doesn't know what the funnel needs, and somewhere in the middle, you become the project manager holding it all together. That's not what you signed up for.
People hire me because I am all those experts, in one person. No handoffs, no re-explaining your brand for the fifth time, nothing lost in translation. Just someone who can quickly and efficiently build your entire online presence – whilst being fun to work with!
The early days
Before I fell down the rabbit hole of online business, I was an actor – for twelve years. Touring Shakespeare, repertory theatre, a couple of TV roles on Emmerdale and The Royal Today – the whole journey of a working actor (mixed in with bar tending and office temp work… you know the drill).
I trained professionally, both in the UK and in New York, and that training is foundational to everything I do in my work.
Acting is about understanding why the characters you play do what they do – what motivates them, what triggers them, what makes them move from thinking about something to actually doing it. That's the exact same instinct I use now, just aimed at your online business instead of a stage. It's why I can build a homepage that guides someone step by step toward a decision, write the email that hits the right spot three days later, and I make sure the logistics behind it all works seamlessly.
How I think
I've got an unusual split personality (not the scary type, promise) when it comes to work: part logic, part creative.
The creative half writes your copy and designs your site. The logical half is the one that gets weirdly excited about domain settings, Google Workspace configuration, and figuring out why a form isn't talking to an email platform properly. Most people are one or the other, apparently I’m both – I’m The Intrigue in The Fascination Test.
Interesting tidbits
I’ve trained with some of the best in the copywriting world: John Carlton (Simple Writing System), AWAI Direct Response Copywriting, Joanna Wiebe (Copyhackers), ThinkTank with Kira Hug & Rob Marsh (The Copywriter Club).
I'm a single mum to two teenage girls who keep me on my toes and remind me daily what actually matters.
I’m a self-certified sci-fi geek. Interstellar is my film fave, with Battlestar Galactica coming in close for a TV series – and yes, I will talk your ears off about them if you let me.
I’m a big movie fan in general – cinematic storytelling is an elixir to my soul. There are 3 movie references throughout the copy on this website, send me a message if you can find them. No prize, only a justified smugness.
I’m a Projector in Human Design (a 1/3 profile if you know what that means), and I pride myself of being a “lighthouse” for my clients, helping to guide them on their journey.
During lockdown I created a one-season podcast – The Business of Universal Kindness – interviewing mission-driven eco-ecommerce founders about building businesses that actually care. You can listen to every episode here.
